One of the City of Belleville’s Centennial celebration projects, the Kiwanis Bayshore trail development commenced in time to have the project opened for the public’s use during the City’s centennial year, 1978. This trail was developed in partnership with the City and the Belleville Kiwanis Club with financial assistance also being received from senior levels of government. The trail has continued to be developed and expanded by the Kiwanis Club and the City of Belleville, since its original opening in 1978.
The 2.5 km. trail commences at the base of Herchimer Avenue and continues west along the shoreline of the Bay of Quinte to Meyers Pier Harbour ending at Freestone Point.
While walking, running, jogging or biking along this trail, one can enjoy the view of the Bay of Quinte, enjoy the treescape developed by the City and the Rotary Club of Belleville along Keegan Parkway, and watch a ball game at the Cheese Producers ball diamond, learn a little of the history of Belleville at the CN Pensioners train monument, or just enjoy relaxing seat on the many park benches along the trail.
The Kiwanis Bayshore trail was just the beginning for trails in the City of Belleville and the Kiwanis Club is pleased that the City and other community groups have continued to develop trails for people of all ages to enjoy a pleasant day.
